    本稿の目的は、日本の大都市における空間的格差の有無を検証することにある。ここで格差というのは、単に空間的な偏在が見られるかどうかということではなく、それがコミュニティにおける住民の高齢化や生活水準によって不公平に配分、配置されているのはないかという点を明らかにしようとするものである。具体的には、コミュニティにおける緑の多さ(グリーンネス)や駅や商店等の生活施設へのアクセスのしやすさ(アクセシビリティ)が、失業率や高齢化率という点で不公平が見られるのではないか、つまり、失業率が高い(低い)ほど、あるいは高齢化率が高い(低い)ほど、グリーンネスが低く(高く)、生活施設へのアクセシビリティが低い(高い)のではないかという問いを検証する。分析の結果、グリーンネスの点では日本の大都市は総じて海外の大都市に比べ見劣りがしているが、格差が拡大しているわけでも格差を招いているわけでもなく、むしろ高齢者や低所得層の多い公共住宅では緑が豊かな傾向にあることが分かった。しかし、公共住宅は駅からやや遠い場所に立地しており、「交通貧困」を招きやすい環境にあることが示唆された。また、都市における空間的な格差の拡大傾向は確認されなかったものの、高齢者が多い地区ほど駅やコンビニから遠い傾向にある点は、高齢化社会における都市計画上、都市政策上の大きな課題として指摘される。
