  • Ultrasound-Assisted Degradation of Poly(<i>p</i>-<i>tert</i>-butoxycarbonyloxystyrene) using TiO2 and Photoacid Generators

Okamura Haruyuki, Oshima Keisuke, Ohno Kohji

    Journal of Photopolymer Science and Technology   37 ( 5 )   541 - 544   2024.06( ISSN:09149244 ( eISSN:13496336

     More details

<p>Poly(<i>p</i>-<i>tert</i>-butoxycarbonyloxystyrene) (PBOCS), a type of degradable polymer, which generates gaseous compounds, such as carbon dioxide and isobutene, was decomposed after ultrasound-irradiation and subsequent heating in the presence of titanium oxide (TiO2) and photoacid generators (PAGs). The decomposition behaviors of PBCOS containing TiO2 and PAG were investigated and discussed in terms of the chemical structures of the PAGs. Ultrasound-assisted degradation of the PAG was investigated by UV-vis spectroscopy. We believe that the degradation contributes to the easy recycling of composite materials.</p>

  • Degradation of Modified Polystyrenes Having Degradable Units by Near Infrared Light Irradiation in The Presence of A Photon Upconversion Nanoparticle and A Photoacid Generator

    Okamura Haruyuki, Mihono Kiwa

    Journal of Photopolymer Science and Technology   37 ( 2 )   205 - 208   2024.06( ISSN:09149244 ( eISSN:13496336

     More details

<p>The degradation of modified polystyrenes having tertiary ether linkages or carbonate linkages were carried out by near infrared light (NIR) irradiation and subsequent heating. The polymer films containing a photoacid generator and a photon upconversion nanoparticle (UCNP) were decomposed to form isobutene and/or carbon dioxide by the NIR irradiation and subsequent heating. The thermal decomposition mechanism of the polymers assisted by NIR irradiation was investigated and discussed in terms of the irradiation and thermolysis conditions. Photolysis of the photoacid generator by NIR irradiation was investigated by UV-vis spectroscopy. We believe that the degradation by the NIR and subsequent heating contributes to the easy recycling of composite materials.</p>
