Several types of ovens have been widely used for food processing and cooking. In this process, foods in an oven are heated by combination of heat transfers such as convection, conduction and thermal radiation. The quality of food products are affected by these heating conditions. In food factories, temperature inside the oven and baking time are adjusted by empirical human operations based on measured temperatures only at fixed-point. Therefore, it can be effective to measure the thermal environment where the food actually placed/moved in the process in real time. We have developed an electronic circuit board and a measuring device having wireless data communication function to measure the thermal environment parameters of temperature, humidity, wind speed, radiation contribution rate, vibration of the food inside the oven. We have performed the practical experiment with a reel oven working at food industry over 175<i>&deg;</i>C for 1800s. The results show that the thermal environment nearby the food in the oven can be measured and temperature profiles also can be traced.

Recently, the superheated steam is widely used in the various fields, for example, drying, sterilization and cooking. In the use of superheated steam, humidity in the processing device is one of the important parameters affecting the product quality. Therefore, a new humidity sensor which can be used at high temperature is required to be developed. There is also a demand to monitor the distribution of humidity inside the processing device. So we develop a system that can monitor humidity measured in remote places at high temperature in real time. In this paper, we show structure of the system. It is confirmed that our system can measure humidity at high temperature and can monitor humidity data in real time.

So we need the humidity sensor whitch is economic and used at high temperature. To measure humidity at high temperature, it is necessary to control the water retention level of the wick. In this paper, we showed the principle of the moisture sensor and the structure of the humidity sensor. The result shows that it is possible to detect the water retention level by the partial moisturel sensor, and to control water retention level by the moisture sensor.

Recently, the use of superheated steam is expanding in the field of sterilization, drying, heating and cooking. In the use of superheated steam, humidity in the processing device is an important parameter affecting the product quality. And the needs of being able to monitor remotely in real time has increased. In this paper, we propose a remote measurement system using a wireless network, and showed its outline. We did experiment using 920MHz band and 2.4GHz band in actual environment for elucidating the propagation characteristics, if the data is send to outside from the steam convection oven's inside. The result shows that the both frequency bands can communicate without problems because electromagnetic wave leak to the outside through peep window.

The author has investigated the new optical orthogonal codes (OOCs) with not only multiple chip rates but also multiple bit rate design, for flexible optical subscribers networks. Its code design is based on the BIBD sequence, expanded to the multi-layered procedure. In this paper, some upper bounds of the code size of the multiple bit-rate/chip-rate OOCs are developed. This numerical analysis does not depend on the bit duration time or bit rates. The author also shows an upper bound on the number of subscribers in an optical CDMA network, where all of subscribers are going to make their chip rate faster step by step. The results show that, in such condition, the users allocations are important, to avoid some dips on the code size of the OOCs.

Nowadays, the temperature and humidity control of superheated steam have become important research area in food drier, pasteurization and food processing. The authors have studied on economic humidity sensor that it is available even at high temperature of more than 200 degrees. The humidity sensor works based on relationship between dry-bulb and wet-bulb temperatures. To measure accurate wet-bulb temperature, water retention control is necessary for keeping temperature near the thermocouple for wet-bulb uniform inside wet material. The sensor's structure should be also well-considered so as to be suitable for water supply functionality. In this paper, porous ceramic is newly developed and used as wet material of the humidity sensor because of high durability against high temperature environment. For automatic water retention control, a prototype of the sensor has a water level sensor inside ceramic and a moisture sensor on the surface of the ceramic. The microcontroller operates a pinch valve to control the amount of water from a tank based on the sensor's outputs. We propose its control algorithm and confirm its validity by transfer function analysis. Moreover, the prototype of the sensor is implemented on the food processing machine and an experimental evaluation of the water retention control is made. We also confirm that the moisture sensor on the surface of the ceramic is effective for detecting reliability of the wet-bulb temperature measurements, by additional experiments.

Optical orthogonal codes (OOC) have been studied by many researchers to improve its flexibility such as variable code length and variable code weight. Recently, the author have proposed OOCs with variable chip rates, which can keep the orthogonal properties of the strict OOC even when different chip rate codes are used in an optical access network for multiplexing. The author have studied the random code search, the upper bound of code size, numerical analysis on BER performance, etc. Their consideration, however, was restricted to fixed bit rate in the all codewords, due to basic and simple analysis. In this paper, the variable chip rate OOCs with unequal bit rates are studied. Some modifications of code parameters and considerable conditions are discussed. Some code search results by a computer program are also shown for confirmation of such code existance.

This paper considers a diversity receiver system for one-hop vital data gathering in a mobile sensor network, which is established by transmitters put on players and receivers placed around a sport field. We carried out experiments using various types of transceivers, and from the experimental results, we demonstrate their antenna directivities and communication ranges, which are affected by the position and heading-direction of the players. Finally, we show the placements and number of receivers required to meet an acceptable transmission quality.

Recently, the less-invasive medical treatment of reducing the patient burden is required in a site of the medical treatment. And, especially the development of the micro robot for the medical treatment is paid to attention recently. We apply optical wireless communication to vivo communication because optical frequency is not interfered with medical equipment. In this paper, to examine the optical communication in vivo, first of all, we make the transmitter and receiver circuit for trial product. We use infrared LED, photo diode (PD) and pork as transmitter, receiver, and biomedical tissue respectively, and we conduct communication experiment using them. We assume on-off keying (OOK) modulation in this paper, and we manufacture Bit Error Rate Tester (BERT), which can measure the bit error rate in real time, by use of FPGA. And we evaluate the bit error rate experimentally in vivo communication.

Recently, in order to figure out sports player's state, his/her supervisor/coach requests to measure sports player's vitaldata data like heart rate and momentum during training period of the sports. To understand sports player's state more accurately, combined use of several kinds of vital data is efficient. However, wearing the sensors at two or more places provides heavy load onto players, and it causes the obstacle to the practice. In this paper, to measure heart rate and momentum at the same place, we've designed and built a prototype circuit which can capture and record ECG signal, PCG signal and blood flow variation signal at the same time. And, we've done an experiment of heart rate accession on waist part and tried to confirm feasibility of hart rate detection at waist part during sports training. The experimentally measured data of player at rest have been compared to resut of a conventional heart rate monitor. The coincidence ratio between prototype and conventional results is about 90 percent. The result show that accession of heart rate on waist part at rest is available.

Rate compatible punctured LDPC codes (RCP-LDPC codes) has powerful error correcting capability and flexible coding rate property. Their recent application is not limitted to channel coding but source coding like the distributed video coding (DVC). The authors have investigated rate estimation schemes for RCP-LDPC codes, where evaluation values for rate decisions were defined as the average absolute values of posteriori LLR, Ei, in sum-product decoders. In this paper, the authors try to improve the rate estimation performance. A new evaluation value based on likelihood function of Ei is proposed, and its performance is evaluated. Moreover, we consider successive / bulk rate estimation to reduce computational complexity, where contiguous multiple code- words are evaluated with candidate code sequences instead of candidate codes. The computer simulation results show the proposed evaluation value provides good rate estimation performance compared to conventional schemes under pre-learning requirements. When pre-learning is not permitted, the results show that the rate estimation with multiple codewords is effective. Some relations between the computational complexity and rate estimation gain are also discussed.

This paper studies a design of optical orthogonal codes (OOC) with multiple chip rates. In the previous works, the authors proposed a concept of the OOC with multiple chip rates which can keep orthogonal properties of the OOC even when different chip rate codewords are used in an optical access network. It was obtained that feasibility of such OOC and its performance by computer code search and numerical analysis. In this paper, the authors report some design procedures of the multiple chip rate OOC based on the BIBD method known as an algebraic design method. We discuss its utilization, flexibility, orthogonality and effectiveness of the obtained codes.

This paper considers a theoretical analysis of optical orthogonal codes(OOCs) with multiple chip rates. In the previous studies on OOCs, the assumption of design with a common chip rate is required at all users in a network, then they must have fast optical transmitters and receivers which can detect short pulses even at some low-end users. To solve this problem, we proposed OOCs with multiple chip rates. This code satisfies the orthogonal property of the OOCs in spite of different chip rates. This paper shows the theoretical upper bound of bit error rate based on observation from a multinomial distribution where chip synchronization is assumed. In addition, we show the exact bit error rate analysis calculated strictly by probability density of received optical interferences pass through a chip gate after correlator at an expected user's receiver in asynchronous consideration. Finally, the computer simulation results confirm the validity of the theoretical analysis by comparison.

Recently, rate compatible codes based on turbo codes and low density parity check (LDPC) codes have much attention. These codes can provide codewords with various error tolerances easily and flexibly and still potentially have powerful error correcting capabilities. The authors have studied the rate estimation scheme for rate compatible punctured turbo (RCPT) codes based on likelihood information. In the research a propagation of rate estimation errors is one of problems to be solved. Thus, code word synchronization is broken after a mis-estimation of the code rate. In this paper, as a method of preventing misalignment of estimation error propagation, we evaluate whether estimation is correct by a reliableness of sum of a posteriori LLR, which is new evaluation value based on rate estimation. Also, we entertain about procedure for determining of threshold, which is to judge that rate estimation is error by the reliableness.

Distributed video coding(DVC) has much attention in video coding because of its low encoding complexity. In this paper, we propose a DVC scheme using rate-compatible punctured LDPC(RCP-LDPC) codes and its rate estimation scheme. The proposed DVC scheme has advantages of no feedback channel and adaptive rate selection based on motion-compensated prediction error at the transmitter. By computer simulations, it is obtained that the proposed scheme has effective performance of the average PSNR and reduced total coded bits for some test video data compared to the conventional non adaptive scheme.

This paper considers a design of optical orthogonal codes (OOCs) with multiple chip rate. In the previous studies on OOCs have been performed on non-uniform code length and/or weight distributions. They enable to provide different transmission rates and bit error properties in optical CDMA networks. However, the assumption of the same chip rate at each level cause necessity that all users belong different level must have optical transmitter and receiver which can detect short pulse. Therefore, there are economical issues. We propose OOCs with multiple chip rate and evaluate bit error rate characteristics and show some results of random code search by a computer program on such OOC.

Recently, rate-compatible (RC) LDPC codes are attractive research topics on complexity-constrained systems that need variations of error correction performance. We have studied rate estimation schemes for rate-compatible quasi-cyclic (QC) LDPC codes. They enable good estimation of code rates used at the transmitter without additional information about code rates. However, QC-LDPC codes are unsuitable for flexible systems because it is difficult to achieve decoding performance appropriate to each code rate. This paper proposes a rate estimation scheme for rate-compatible punctured LDPC codes which can achieve required performance and generate various code rates. Simulation results show suitable parameters of puncturing pattern, evaluation value and iteration number for the rate estimation. It is obtained that good performance of the proposed scheme can be achieved compared to conventional schemes.

This paper considers a design of optical orthogonal codes (OOC) with multiple chip rate. In the previous works, many types of OOCs have been proposed and evaluated, such as the extended OOCs with non-uniform code length and weight distributions. They could provide different qualities of bit rate and error performances for multimedia services. However, even the low level users must have expensive receivers to detect ultra short optical pulses, because their code designs have been based on the same chip rate. In this paper, OOC with multiple chip rates is proposed to solve such economical problems. We discuss its flexibility in BER performance and show some results of random code search by a computer program.

In addition, increase of transmission capacity is necessary I am stable, and to be able to offer various service to a user. Two methods are adopted to transmit the control signal of the light router in an optical communication network. The first is a method to send with a common line communication network. It costs expense to provide equipment in a network to transmit a control signal by this method. It is a method the second assigns a control signal to the wavelength of the one of the WDM as OSC (Optical Supervisory Channel), and to transmit. Recently, rate compatible LDPC (RC-LDPC) codes are attractive research topics on channel coding. We have investigated rate estimation schemes for RC-LDPC codes. It enables a technique to estimate code rates used at the transmitter without information about code rates. In this paper, we focus on the problem of fairness for improvement of rate estimation performance. The problem of fairness is that rate estimation performance of high rate codes dominates total performance because high rate codes have lower performance. In order to solve the problem, we propose a new evaluation value based on probability density distribution of evalution value, and evaluate the performance of the proposed method by computer simulations. By comparing the conventional method, the results show that the proposed method is effective in terms of total performance.

An optical CDMA (OCDMA) system is a flexible technology for future broadband multiple access networks. A secure OCDMA network in broadband optical access technologies is also becoming an issue of great importance. In this paper, we propose novel reconfigurable wavelength-time (W-T) optical codes that lead to secure transmission in OCDMA networks. The proposed W-T optical codes are constructed by using quasigroups (QGs) for wavelength hopping and one-dimensional optical orthogonal codes (OOCs) for time spreading; we call them QGs/OOCs. Both QGs and OOCs are randomly generated by a computer search to ensure that an eavesdropper could not improve its interception performance by making use of the coding structure. Then, the proposed reconfigurable QGs/OOCs can provide more codewords, and many different code set patterns, which differ in both wavelength and time positions for given code parameters. Moreover, the bit error probability of the proposed codes is analyzed numerically. To realize the proposed codes, a secure system is proposed by employing reconfigurable encoders/decoders based on array waveguide gratings (AWGs), which allow the users to change their codeword patterns to protect against eavesdropping. Finally, the probability of breaking a certain codeword in the proposed system is evaluated analytically. The results show that the proposed codes and system can provide a large codeword pattern, and decrease the probability of breaking a certain codeword, to enhance OCDMA network security.

For mobile sensor robots without specific ranging sensors, we have proposed a method to enable their motion control only with the ranging technique realized in the wireless communication tool to network them. The method generates a common coordinate system among robots and notifies each robots of its heading direction in the coordinate system (common coordinate system generation/heading direction estimation). This paper outlines the principle of the common coordinate system generation/heading direction estimation and shows the experimental results with the prototype robots developed with the implementation of the motion control algorithm.

This paper considers a rate estimation scheme for Rate Compatible LDPC (RC-LDPC) codes. The authors have investigated some estimation schemes for RC-LDPC even through there is no side-information about code rates used at the transmitter. The previous schemes were based on Log-Likelihood Ratio (LLR) of Sum-Product decoders at the receiver. Because of too much computational complexity, more simple estimation schemes are expected to be developed. For the purpose of this, we focused on a simpler decoding scheme, Weighted Bit-Flipping (WBF) decoding which had been much attention by many reseachers recently. In this paper, a new rate estimation scheme is proposed and evaluated. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme has advantages of much effectiveness and potential estimating code rates.

Recently, rate compatible codes using turbo codes and low density parity check (LDPC) codes have attracted attention. These codes can provide codewords with various error tolerances easily and flexibly, still having potentially powerfull error correcting abilities. So, by selecting optimum code rate for channel state at the transmitter, we can improve transmission efficiency. However, in this system, the receiver has possibilities of decoding with incorrect rate because of no knowledge of the rate selected at the transmitter. Indeed, use of side information for notification of the rate is one of easy ways to be considered. But this way increases redundancy and causes degradation of transmission efficiency. Therefore the scheme that the receiver can know the rate of transmitted codeword without side information is necessary. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of a blind estimation scheme based on likelihood information for Rate Compatible Punctured Turbo (RCPT) codes. We consider the scheme using side information encoded by BCH codes as comparison scheme. By computer simulations, we compare these schemes and show the effectiveness of the blind estimation scheme based on likelihood information.

Optical Orthogonal Codes (OOC) have been investigated as an important technology to achieve Optical CDMA Systems. They has a problem of weakness against eavesdropping. To overcome this problem, cryptology, code shift keying modulation and frequent code change, that is, code reconfiguration are expected. Especially, the code reconfiguration technique can be performed at physical level, so it will be suitable for high speed communications. In this paper, we propose design of optical orthogonal codes suitable for the code reconfiguration technique. BER performance of the proposed codes is obtained.

Recently, it is important to control several kinds of information according to its priority. Especially, attention is currently focused on Earliest Deadline First (EDF) queue that minimize maximum delay time. In this paper, we propose a method for approximate analysis of waiting time distribution in the M/M/1 EDF queue which has two relative deadline time. In addition, we propose a allocation method of relative deadline in each node for reduction of probability deadline violation. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the propose method compared to conventional scheme.

Recently, turbo trellis-coded modulation which is combination of trellis-coded modulation and turbo codes attracts researcher's attention. Trellis-coded modulation(TCM) provides high bandwidth efficiency, and turbo codes provide excellent BER performance. Moreover, multidimensional turbo TCM which is combination of multidimensional TCM and turbo codes is under study. Turbo TCM was applied to PSK signal sets based on binary generators. This scheme has high flexbility of signal sets construction, high bandwidth efficiency and much coding gain. In this paper, we applied turbo TCM to multidimensional QAM(Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) signal sets which have higher bandwidth efficiency, and made comparison based on some criteria. As a result, we were able to obtain much coding gain.

A victim detection system is proposed for rescue operations in disaster areas. This system is used by GPS (Global Positioning System) to estimate position. But we can't estimate position, when uses GPS at indoor areas. In this paper, we propose a method for position estimation applied to the mixed area where GPS is available or not. In addition, to apply restricted mesh method to this method more improve position estimation accuracy. The computer simulation results show that we can confirme improvement of position estimation accuracy.

A method is proposed for multi-robot network system for rescue operations in disaster areas. Battery cost is one of multi-robot network system problems. Lifetime of multi-robots is very short. Moreover, decrease of battery energy occurs from wasted actions by autonomous moving. In this paper, we propose restricted mesh method depending on the conventional mesh method which divides search area into grid cells and set up fixed nodes in these cells. The computer simulation was carried out and we confirmed that reduces battery cost by node moving and improves network reliability.

An optical orthogonal code (OOC) is one of attractive research topics for fully optical CDMA systems. Well-known OOCs are time-spreading type codes, while recent OOCs include frequency-spreading type codes that can be generated by innovative FBG encoder technologies. In this paper, frequency-spreading type OOCs with unequal weights to solve a near-far problem in optical CDMA systems have been studied. We have proposed that partial codes of MQC are used as the unequal-weight codes. BER performance is derived by a Gaussian approximation technique. The capacity of the CDMA system is also obtained. The results show that the proposed OOCs can provide flexible performance even when user's received power ratio becomes large.

Recently, Rate-Compatible LDPC (RC-LDPC) codes have become attractive research topics on channel coding. RC-LDPC codes provide various coding rates and users can select suitable coding rates according to channel conditions. However, RC-LDPC codes have a disadvantage: the transmitter notifies the coding rate to the receiver as side-information. In this paper, we propose a rate estimation technique which can estimate the rate with the Log-Likelihood Ratio (LLR) only, and have made performance comparison with two rate estimation techniques when transmitter selects coding rates randomly. Computer simulation results show that proposed technique can improve performance of rate estimation of RC-LDPC codes.

In this paper, we evaluate turbo trellis-coded modulation schemes using multidimensional (multi-D) 4-, 8- and 16- PSK signal sets based on binary generators. Trellis-coded multi-D phase modulation has some advantages compared with trellis- coded phase modulation. Also turbo codes have powerful error correction. We compared the performance of proposal system to multi-D phase modulation and turbo trellis-coded phase modulation in computer simulations, it was shown to be able to obtain the flexibility of the bandwidth efficiency without deteriorating the coding gain when there were a lot of numbers of storage elements in the convolutional encoders.

A method is proposed for wide area search by victim detection system. In the victim detection system, robots configure the ad hoc network and search victims maintaining autonomously the communication path to MS (monitor station). Each robot selects its role between HR (head robot) and RR (relay robot) according to its FT (forwarding table). HR explores the disaster area whereas RR plays as a relay terminal connecting MHR (master HR) and MS. MHR is selected properly among HRs recorded in the FT at each RR. The effectivity of this method is confirmed by omputer simulations.

Recently, novel optical orthogonal codes (OOC) using fiber bragg gratings (FBGs) are proposed, in which a broad band optical pulse is spread into several different wave-length pulses. There are many related works, in which they have been evaluated mostly with equal code weight designs. In this paper, we evaluate a new optical orthogonal code design with unequal weights using FBG encoders. The proposed codes are designed as masked and/or separated codewords of conventional MQC codes. Results of performance evaluations show that we can control error-free regions of optical CDMA systems by changing parameters of unequal OOC weights flexibly.
