Research subject summary

  • 湖底などの堆積物中には水域環境だけでなく,人間活動を含んだ湖沼周辺の陸域環境の変化も記録されています.これらの堆積物の研究を通して,過去の環境や気候,人間と自然環境の関係史の解明に取り組んでいます.特に,地質時代における山火事の変遷,人の森林や草原への火入れ(山焼き),産業革命以降の化石燃料使用の歴史などについて,堆積物中の炭や粉塵を用いて解明しています.これらの研究を通して第四紀学の視点から人新世の気候変動や環境問題を洞察することを目標としています。
