管理会計は、経営管理のための会計であり、企業や非営利組織、政府行政機関および地方自治体行政組織などあらゆる組織の管理・運営に役立つ学問である。コスト・マネジメントと業績評価は管理会計という学問のもっとも重要な部分である。日本では、1960年代以降方針管理や原価企画・原価改善などのコスト・マネジメントあるいは管理会計手法が開発され普及してきた。こうした企業実務から生まれた管理会計の手法は欧米をはじめアジアの学界において日本的管理会計として高く評価されている。中国でも1980年代後半から多くの企業において欧米や日本の管理会計手法が導入されており、一部の先進的な企業では、独自なコスト・マネジメントと業績管理手法の開発が行なわれている。本研究の目的の一つは日本と中国企業の管理会計の実務および理論を比較・分析し、それぞれの特徴を明らかにすることである。
伝統的管理会計は、企業内部の利害関係者、特に経営管理者に経営情報を提供することを基本機能としている。しかしながら、管理会計には、情報提供機能のほかに、マネジメント・コントロールというもう一つの重要な機能を持っている。本研究のもう一つの目的は、現代企業を取り巻く経営環境に相応しいマネジメント・コントロール・システムを構築することである。

会計はビジネスの言語である。したがって、経営活動を説明する際、必ず会計の言葉を使うことになる。 会計は、財務会計と管理会計からなる。財務会計は、株主や債権者など企業外部の利害関係者に報告することを目的としており、外部報告会計とも呼ばれる。一方、管理会計は、経営管理に役立つ資料を企業内部の経営者に提供することを目的としており、内部報告会計ともいわれる。 私は原価計算論をはじめ、会計関連の講義を担当している。

小林学部長と私は、東北財経大学の招待を受けて、同大学を訪問した。まず、同大学の学長および関係者と面会し、双方の国際交流の実績と今後の方向性について意見交換した。次に国際商務外語学院主催の座談会に出席し、今後の国際交流について話し合った。さらに、会計学院を訪問し、双方の国際交流協定を締結することで一致した。
