  • 生物はどのようにして生存に不適切な環境を乗り越えようとするのか、その分子メカニズムはどのようなものか、を大きなテーマとして研究を行っている。なかでも昆虫の光周性機構に大きな関心を寄せている。ハエ、カメムシ、コオロギ,ダニやナメクジなどさまざまな無脊椎動物を対象とした研究を行っている。

    生物は環境の変化を予測しながら生活しています.たとえば,多くの生物は一日のうちいつ朝が来るのか,いつ夜がくるのか,1年のうちでいつ夏が来るのかを,いつ冬が来るのかを予測することができます.海辺の生物は潮の満ち引きを予測できます.この予測には,生物のからだの中にある「時計」がかかわっています.多くの生物が時計を持っており,もちろんみなさんのからだの中にも時計があります.ではどのような時計なのでしょうか.どこにあるのでしょうか.どのような部品からなるのでしょうか.
    このように生物がもつ時計について研究する分野は時間生物学という学問分野に含まれます.本講義では,時間生物学の基礎的な部分について紹介するとともに,私たちが行っている最新の研究についてお話しします.

    みなさんご存じのように、大阪ではクマゼミがたくさん発生しています。午前中に「しゃあしゃあしゃあ…」と大合唱している、あのセミです。ほとんどの人はセミの成虫を見たことがあるでしょう。幼虫を見たことはありますか?夕方から夜にかけて土から出てきて成虫になるので、その様子を観察したことがある人もいるでしょう。では卵は?そもそもどこにあるのでしょうか?どうやってふ化するのでしょうか?実は卵は「枯れ枝の中で雨を待ち望んでいる」のです。この講義と実験では、自分たちでクマゼミの卵をふ化(卵から幼虫がかえること)させ、その生理機構と生態的意義について考えます。
