    小笠原沖の前弧域の海底を掘削し,ボニナイト溶岩,前弧玄武岩溶岩,はんれい岩を採取することに成功した.本報告書では,船上で行われた各種記載や分析の結果を包括的にまとめた.柵山はこのうち採取した堆積物および岩石試料の物性計測(岩石密度,P波速度,磁化率,空隙率,自然ガンマ線,熱伝導率,温度等)を行い,その結果をまとめた.

    小笠原沖の前弧域の海底掘削(1439-1442掘削孔)において取得した物性データ(地震波P波速度,空隙率,岩石密度等)を,典型的な海洋地殻断面と考えられているその他の海底掘削孔(中米沖ココスプレート掘削による1256D掘削孔,中米沖ナスカプレート掘削による504B掘削孔)やオフィオライト地域におけるデータと比較し,小笠原沖の海底では有意に地震波速度が遅いことを示した.オフィオライトのいくつかは,小笠原沖のようなプレート沈み込み開始に伴い形成された層序を保存していると考えられているが,オフィオライトを典型的な海洋地殻断面と考える際は,衝上後の過程を無視できないことも明らかにした.

    九州北西部,五島列島福江島の東に位置する赤島に分布する第四紀玄武岩火山活動の成因を,偏光顕微鏡を用いた岩石記載, EPMAを用いた鉱物組成分析,XRFやICP-MS,TIMSを用いた全岩化学組成分析(主成分,微量成分,および同位体比)を行い成因を議論した.熱力学的手法を思いいて,マグマ含水量を推定,マントル融解温度圧力条件を推定し,微量元素組成・同位体組成と合わせて,スラブからの超臨界流体の上昇がマグマ生成に重要な寄与をしたことを明らかにした.

    中国南東部・東部・東北部から韓半島までを含むユーラシア大陸東縁部に分布する新生代後期の玄武岩火山活動の成因を,玄武岩質溶岩の全岩化学組成のコンパイルデータと,熱力学モデルを用いたフォワードモデル計算を行い,当該地域の火成活動の成因が,沈み込んだスラブだけでなく,下部マントルからのマントル上昇流の関与もある可能性を,熱力学的に推定したマントル温度や全岩放射性同位体比などから示唆した.

    小笠原沖の前弧域の海底を掘削して採取した各種岩石のうち,前弧玄武岩に関する陸上における,岩石記載やEPMA分析,全岩化学組成(主成分,微量成分,同位体)分析結果の詳細をまとめた.海洋プレート沈み込みに伴い生成されるマグマ組成の変化や,それをもたらしたテクトニクスの変化を,熱力学的に求めたマグマ生成温度・圧力や全岩微量元素パターンの変化などから明らかにした.
