  • The elasto - plastic behavior of static and dynamic responses are focused for spatial lattice structures, which are subjected to vertical or horizontal loads. The purpose is to make clear the relationship between seismic responses and static responses from the view point of input strain energy properties after and before yielding, and to estimate bearable seismic levels with the information of static elasto - plastic behaviors. The static response compared is the relationships between equivalent velocities of strain energies and displacements. The dynamic response compared is that between earthquake input acceleration PGA and equivalent velocities of strain energies.

    <p>The main purpose of this research is to develop optimal cable arrangement and the damping of nonlinear structural system reinforced by non-compression resistant cables when it vibrates. The object is the moment-resisting frames which reinforced by the no initial tension cable. First, we clarified the cable arrangement which could lower the displacement at the time of the earthquake vibration by analysis using 3-layer 2-span moment-resisting frames which installed cables. Second, we conducted free vibration experiment using small models. It was revealed that there was damping peculiar to non-linear vibration to the structure reinforced cables from the result. It could be considered to be damping by a cable repeating the tension state and the deflection state.</p>

    &nbsp;This paper focuses on the elasto - plastic behavior of static and dynamic responses for single layer lattice domes, which are subjected to vertical loads. The purpose is to make clear the relationship between seismic responses and static responses such as static absorbed energy properties after and before yielding, and to estimate bearable seismic levels with the information of static elasto - plastic behaviors. The two responses compared are shown in Fig. 14. The dimensions of both figures are equal in multiplying or dividing by circular frequency.<br>&nbsp;The single layer lattice domes are shown in Fig. 1. Half open angle of members and self-weight are adopted as numerical parameters as shown in Table 3. The static elasto - plastic behaviors are shown in Fig. 3. In the figure, The solid lines are the equivalent velocity of strain energies, the dotted and dashed lines are that of static absorbed energies and the dashed lines are that of potential energy performed by the product of self-weight and vertical displacements. These relationships obtained are simplified into bi-linear relationships as shown in Fig. 4 to obtain the static elasto - plastic property coefficient j. The obtained results of coefficient j are shown in Table 4.<br>&nbsp;Secondary, the dynamic elasto - plastic behaviors are estimated against 4 seismic waves of Fig. 5. The dynamic behavior obtained is the relationships between maximum ground acceleration PGA and strain energies. The obtained results are shown in Figs. 6-9 and simplified into bi-linear relationships to obtain the dynamic elasto - plastic property coefficient q, as shown in Fig. 14(b). The obtained results are shown in Table 5.<br>&nbsp;In comparing the two property coefficients j and q as shown in Fig. 10, BCJ wave is relatively large about the dynamic effect. On the contrary, El Centro wave is the smallest among the four waves. This reason is made clear in considering the input acceleration power history as shown in Fig. 11. BCJ wave of Fig. 11(a) has many peaks during the motions, but El Centro wave of Fig. 11(b) has a few peaks during the first half of motions. These strong characteristics of seismic waves can be considered with the input energy spectrum V<sub>E</sub> as shown in Fig. 12. Then the ratios q/j are compared with the ratios V<sub>E</sub>/S<sub>V</sub>. The ratio q/j decreases as the ratio V<sub>E</sub>/S<sub>V</sub> increases.<br>&nbsp;The Eqn. 5 is the regression formula obtained by the data distributed in the quadrangle of Fig. 13, expressed as dotted and dashed line in the figure. The PGA corresponding to the limit state deformations can be estimated with Eqns. 4 and 5. The predicted results are shown in Fig. 15 and Table 6.<br>&nbsp;The following conclusions are obtained in the present study: (1) The relationship of maximum earthquake input acceleration PGA and strain energies of domes shows bi-linear type such as the relationships of static absorbed energies and displacements. (2) In comparing the preceding two relationships as for dynamic and static responses, the change ratios among elastic and plastic ranges are dependent upon the seismic waves. The distribution tendencies are able to be explained with the information of input acceleration power history of seismic waves. (3) The ratios of dynamic property q against static property j becomes smaller, as the ratios of energy spectrum V<sub>E</sub> against velocity response spectrum S<sub>V</sub> becomes larger. (4) The present estimation method of PGA corresponding to limit state deformations shows a relatively good accuracy.

    &nbsp;A TMD (Tuned Mass Damper) is a passive-type control device that consists of a small mass, a spring and a damper. And it absorbs the oscillation energy of structures as the kinetic energy of its mass and disperses it via its damper. The TMD shows high control performance for harmonic responses. On the other hand, the TMD has limited capacity to suppress transient responses. The reason is that there is some time delay before the TMD becomes fully effective because they are initially at rest.<br>&nbsp;Thus, to control the transient response more effectively, we propose TMDs with initial displacement, that is, dampers whose springs are stretched until the release moment.<br>&nbsp;In our previous study, we focused on the considerably high modal damping ratio of the second mode compared to the first mode based on the relationship between the TMD damping ratio and the modal damping ratio of a two-degree-of-freedom model. And we proposed the design formulas for the optimal tuning and damping ratios and the initial displacement to attain high control performance under impulse loading. The proposed design formulas are based on the principle that by giving the specific TMD initial displacement under the specific structural initial condition the structural response of the first mode with low modal damping is eliminated while the structural response of the second mode with high modal damping is only oscillated. But the physical meaning of the design formula for TMD initial displacement is not clear because it is an approximate solution based on the perturbation method.<br>&nbsp;Then, we formulated the equation for initial conditions to release TMD initial displacement from the theoretical free vibration solution and showed its physical meaning clearly. We studied about TMD initial displacement and structural conditions to release initial displacement using the complex plane, and we showed that the initial structural condition to oscillate only the second mode was limited to a neighborhood of <i>ẋ</i><sub>0</sub>&ne;0, <i>x</i><sub>0</sub>=0. On the other hand, we proved that, by dividing one TMD into plural TMDs that have different natural frequencies, any initial structural conditions to release TMDs became possible.<br>&nbsp;In this paper, firstly, we analytically study the effect of different settings of two TMDs tuning ratios on TMD initial displacements to eliminate the first modal response with the lowest modal damping and structural responses for free vibration using a basic three-degree-of-freedom model. Next, we decompose the initial condition to modal eigenvectors on the complex plane and study the interrelationship between each initial condition of a main mass and two TMDs. Then, we show the reason why different settings of TMDs tuning ratios affect the TMD initial displacements to eliminate the first modal response and the structural responses. Finally, by using the energy indicator &ldquo;TMD power flow&rdquo; that shows an additional TMD damping effect proposed by Soong, T.T. and Dargush, G.F., we study the control performance of TMDs with different tuning ratios condition.

    &nbsp;The TMD (Tuned Mass Damper) is a passive type control device that absorbs oscillation energy of structures as kinetic energy of a weight of the TMD and disperses kinetic energy by damping of a damper of the TMD. However, we recognize that the performance of the TMD in suppressing seismic responses is relatively limited compared to harmonic responses. The reason is that there is some delay before the TMD become fully effective because they are initially at rest.<br>&nbsp;Thus, to effectively control transient response, especially impulsive seismic responses, we propose TMDs with initial displacement, that is to say, dampers whose springs are stretched until the release timing.<br>&nbsp;In our previous study, we focused on the considerably high modal damping ratio of the second mode compared to the first mode based on the relationship between the TMD damping ratio and the modal damping ratio of a two-degrees-of-freedom model. And we proposed the design formulas about the TMD tuning and damping ratios and the TMD initial displacement for high control performance under impulse loading. The proposed design formulas are based on the principle that by giving the specific TMD initial displacement under the specific structural initial condition the structural response of the first mode with low modal damping can be eliminated and only the structural response of the second mode with high modal damping is oscillated. But the physical meaning of the design formula about the TMD initial displacement used in this study is not clear because it is an approximate solution obtained by the perturbation method.<br>&nbsp;Then, in the next study, we introduced a formula for initial conditions to release TMD initial displacement by applying the theoretical free vibration solution and showed its physical meaning clearly. We studied about TMD initial displacement and structural conditions to release initial displacement by using the complex plane, and we saw that the initial structural condition to oscillate only the second mode was a neighborhood of <i><ruby>x<rt>●</rt></ruby></i><sub>0</sub> ≠ 0, <i>x</i><sub>0</sub> = 0 . But by dividing one TMD into plural TMDs that have different natural frequencies, we proved that initial structural conditions to release initial displacement could be changed.<br>&nbsp;In this paper, we describe the vibration test using an arch model under impulse loading to verify the control performance of the proposed method experimentally. From test results, we can see that a TMD with initial displacement model show the high control performance for early impulse responses and is most effective in a neighborhood of the TMD initial displacement to oscillate only the second mode using a converted two-degrees-of-freedom model. On the other hand, we can see that the control performance of TMD is very sensitive to the length and the release time of initial displacement. Then, we study the influence of different conditions about the length and the release time of initial displacement on the control performance using a basic two-degrees-of-freedom model analytically.

The purpose is to make clear the relationship between seismic responses and static responses such as load displacement relationships, and to estimate allowable seismic levels with the information of static elasto-plastic behaviors. Two portal frames and column or beam models are treated, as shown in Fig. 1. The energy equilibrium is expressed as Eqn. 2 in static elasto-plastic behaviors. The right term <i>E<sup>F</sup></i> is equal to the energy done by load and may be defined as a static absorbed energy of structures. In this paper, each energy is expressed as an equivalent velocity as Eqn. 3. The maximum value of <i>E<sup>F</sup></i> may be an allowable amount of input energy, for instances, by seismic loads. The relationships between each energy and displacements are shown in Fig. 5. The equivalent velocity of <i>E<sup>F</sup></i> is expressed as a dash and dotted line. The response curves are almost equal although the loading shapes are different as shown in Fig. 3. The fact may show that the differences between static uniform load and quasi-static seismic load do not affect the energy responses, and that the estimation with input energy may not be affected by the shape of loading.<br>&nbsp;Secondly, the elasto-plastic behavior on dynamic responses is investigated under seismic loads. The relationships between maximum input acceleration and strain energy of each model are shown in Figs. 11, 16 and 21. The curves of 3 parameters are drawn in each figure. The effect of static safety coefficients <i>v</i> is made clear with the curves, to confirm the effect of vertical oscillations is larger than that of horizontal oscillations. In the three figures, the each curve shows the relationship of bi-linear type. In the range after yielding, the maximum input energies at the limit state are compared as shown in Figs. 22 - 24, which show the ratio of dynamic responses against static ones. The static safety coefficient <i>v</i> is smaller, and then the increasing ratio of dynamic responses is larger than static ones.<br>&nbsp;In order to estimate allowable maximum input accelerations, the comparisons between elasto-plastic behavior of dynamic responses as Fig. 25 and that of static response as Fig. 26 are shown in Fig. 27. The dynamic elasto-plastic property q represents the decreasing properties of plastic range against elastic range in the relationships between maximum earthquake input acceleration and input strain energy. The static elasto-plastic property j represents the relationship of two slopes in the static elasto-plastic behavior. The dynamic property q is smaller than the static property j under vertical oscillations and is almost equal to each other under horizontal oscillations. The preceding considerations are carried out under additional seismic waves of Table 6 and the additional models<sup>10)</sup>. The obtained results are shown in Fig. 28. The results show the same tendency at each seismic loads. The dash and dotted line in Fig. 28 could be presented to estimate the allowable maximum earthquake input acceleration.<br>&nbsp;The conclusions are follows in the present study.<br>&nbsp;(1) The relationships between the static absorbed energy and displacements are not affected by the loading shape. It may be able to estimate the response of structures with an index of potential energy.<br>&nbsp;(2) The fact is confirmed that the allowable maximum earthquake input accelerations are affected with the self-weight under vertical oscillations more than horizontal oscillations.<br>&nbsp;(3) In comparing the dynamic property q and the static property j, the dash and dotted line in Fig. 28 could be presented to estimate the allowable maximum earthquake acceleration with the static elasto-plastic behaviors for beam type structures.

    While the South Hyogo Prefecture Earthquake in 1995 is known as a severe earthquake having killed more than six thousand people, damage to non-structural components in large enclosures was significant. We investigated 35 large enclosures just after the earthquake and after 14 years. Its purpose was to figure out not only the situations of damage but also how they had been recovered or improved because, in many cases, they are used as shelters during disasters. In this report, we discuss the results showing three examples of each large enclosure.

    We propose tuned mass dampers with initial displacement that are possible to control impulsive seismic responses effectively. In our previous study, we focused on the considerably high modal damping ratio of the second mode compared to the first mode and proposed the design formulas for high control performance under impulse loading. The proposed design formulas are based on the principle that by giving the specific TMD initial displacement under the specific structural initial condition the structural response of the first mode can be eliminated. In this paper, we introduce a formula for initial conditions to release initial displacement by the theoretical solution and study about TMD initial displacement and structural conditions by using the complex plane. Next, we propose a design method that can change initial structural conditions.

    本論文では、伸縮膜を用いた新しい展開構造としてDCMS(Deployable Closed-Membrane StruGture)を紹介する。DCMSは4つの棒材と4つの自由継手によって構成された四角形のフレームの中に伸縮性の膜材を張ることで構成される膜パネルを構成要素とし、これらを棒材、自由継手を共有することで連結して構成させる構造体である。DCMSは膜材の張力が構造体内部で自己釣合い系を形成することで安定し、同時に弾性変形能と展開メカニズムを有する。また、DCMSの基本ユニットの一つである4つの膜パネルから構成される4膜ユニットが空間充填可能であることを示し、これにより4膜ユニットの連結による様々な形状のモジュールが形成可能であることを示し、その例として線状モジュール、および面状モジュールを紹介する。最後にDCMSの適用例としてプロトタイプユニットを用いたパビリオン用のテント型モジュールを紹介し、その折り畳みプロセスを示すことでモジュールに対して展開メカニズムが保存され、効率的な展開構造物が構成可能であることを示す。

    In this study, we aim to propose tuned mass dampers with initial displacement that are possible to control impulsive seismic responses effectively for architectural structures. In advance of the study on control of seismic responses, we aim to propose design formulas to control the structural responses subjected to impulse forces. In our previous study, we have proposed the design formulas using the optimal tuning and damping ratios for harmonic ground vibration. But to improve control effect on overall time history responses is difficult, because these formulas are based on the principle of the beating phenomenon. Then, in this paper, we focus on the vibration property when the damping ratio of the tuned mass damper is larger than that of our previous study and propose new design formulas with high control effect on impulse forces. Moreover, we propose design formulas considering the damping of the structure.

    Earthquake input energies have been discussed in considering seismic resistant capacities of structures. In the literature, it had been pointed out by the author et al. that potential energies due to self-weight and dead loads would be necessary to be taken into account in order to estimate the seismic resistance capacity in a good accuracy especially for beam type structures. The author presented an estimation method of ultimate seismic resistance capacity with the static absorbed energies considering potential energies. The method presented utilizes the two strain energies at an initial yield and a limit state, and a pseudo velocity response spectrum of seismic waves. Although it is based on an extrapolation method, it shows a good accuracy in the estimation of maximum input acceleration of seismic waves. The method includes a modification equation to improve the accuracy, considering the properties of elastic and plastic strain energies of structures during a pushover analysis. Then in this paper, the effect of static safety factors is investigated to make clear the meanings of coefficient in the modification equation, for lattice beams of two types, cross web type and warren type. As the results, a further modified estimation method is presented to predict the dynamic collapse level under excessive seismic motions with the information of pushover and free vibration analyses.

    We study about tuned mass dampers with initial displacement. In the existing study, we could see that the vibration control performance in the initial transient response improve effectively by introducing initial displacement to TMD. Moreover, we proposed a design formula about the optimal initial displacement using optimum parameters for harmonic vibration and confirmed analytically the effect of vibration control performance for spatial structures. And we executed a vibration test under impulse loading to verify the effect of the proposed system experimentally and show that an experimental model of the TMD with initial displacement works.In this paper, we pay attention to the appearance of singular characteristics about modal damping ratios and natural frequencies when changing the damping ratio of TMD and propose a new design formula about tuned mass dampers with initial displacement which show very high control performance compared to the existing study.

    To effectively control transient responses, we propose TMDs with initial displacement. The initial displacement can change the phases of beat envelope curves resulting from superposition of two vibration modes with closely spaced natural frequencies. In this paper, we describe the vibration test under impulse loading to verify the effect of the proposed system experimentally and that a model of TMD made on an experimental basis works validly. Firstly, we explain the effect of vibration control of the proposed method to the plate model on the analytical basis. Then, we explain experimental results and lastly compared experimental results and analytical results.

This paper reports distribution of the buildings. This paper also reports investigation results of five buildings whose ceilings had failed.     The purpose of this study is to promote the utilization as structural lumber of medium size logs of 80-years-old sugi (<i>Cryptomeria japonica</i> D. Don). We measured the dynamic Young's modulus by longitudinal vibration (<i>E</i><sub>fr</sub>) of 35 medium size logs of 80-years-old sugi grown in Wakayama Prefecture. Then, we measured the dynamic Young's modulus by longitudinal vibration (<i>E</i><sub>d</sub>), and the static Young's modulus in bending measured by the dead weight method (<i>MOE</i>) of 275 rectangular-cut timbers (standard size : 45&times;90 mm) sawn from the logs. The correlation of <i>E</i><sub>fr</sub>, <i>E</i><sub>d</sub>, and <i>MOE</i> was tested relying on statistical tools. Main results are as follows : First, the correlation between <i>E</i><sub>d</sub> and <i>MOE</i> is statistically significant. Second, the classification for every lot was effective, since <i>MOE</i> for every lot differed according to lot type at a statistically significant level, and the correlation between <i>E</i><sub>d</sub> and <i>MOE</i> was statistically significant for every lot. Third, a strong correlation between <i>E</i><sub>fr</sub> and <i>MOE</i> was observed. Therefore, machine stress grading based on <i>E</i><sub>fr</sub> was tested as a next phase. As a result, we found it was effective. This method is effective in the case where a variety of lots exist in one area of classification, since the quality of logs varies for every lot.

    In this paper, we propose tuned mass dampers with initial displacement to control transient response for spatial structures. The initial displacement of the TMD changes the phase of a beat envelope curve resulted from two vibration modes with closely spaced natural frequencies. We propose design formulas of tuned mass dampers with initial displacement and studied analytically the effect of vibration control on an impulse force and an impulsive earthquake force. As a consequence, we could recognize that the proposed system improve especially the control performance of the initial response. Lastly, to confirm the applicability of the proposed design formulas for controlling real structures, we studied analytically the effect of vibration control of the proposed method in this paper by using a single layer lattice shell model.

    Lattice structures consisting of various mesh patterns show different static buckling and post-buckling behaviors even if the compression members have the same slenderness ratios. There are not sufficient studies in the literature to finding document to know the effect of these static characteristics on the seismic resistant capacity. In this paper as for plane lattice arches and double-layer cylindrical lattice roofs, the relation between dynamic collapse behavior and static collapse behavior, under excessive vertical loads, is numerically investigated to present a prediction method for the load level of dynamic collapse. The prediction method can be done with the information of load-deformation curves, natural periods and velocity response spectrum of seismic motions. The value predicted may be modified with the information of the elastic and plastic strain energies at a limit state of structures.

    We have developed the new earthquake resisting wall which made KAGOME-knits of the bamboo material. This study proposes the tensile properties of the bamboo material for crafts used as the material. Full-size tensile tests were conducted in order to examine the tensile character of 162 tensile specimen. And the correlation of thickness(<i>t</i>) of a node and a internode, and tensile properties was mainly examined. Main findings are given in the below. First, very strong linear relationships are observed between breaking strain and failure modes. And the difference of the thickness of right and left of a node had influenced the failure modes. Second, strong linear relationships are observed between tensile properties and <i>t</i>. Therefore, the stress grading based on <i>t</i> was examined as a next phase. As a result, it was found that it was effective. From these results in the above, the bamboo material, of which quality is controlled by the present method, is available as structural bamboo, since stiffness, strength, and maximum load are guaranteed.

    A new earthquake resisting wall using the &ldquo;KAGOME-unit&rdquo; was developed to improve the earthquake resistant performance of timber frame. The advantage of the KAGOME-unit is superior constructivity because of light-weighted, and that it is able to improve the earthquake resistant performance keeping open space because of transparent and permeable. To evaluate the earthquake resistant performance of the earthquake resisting wall which built KAGOME-unit into timber frame, horizontal cyclic static loading tests has been conducted. As a result, it could be verified that the earthquake resistant performance of the earthquake resisting wall was about that of so-called &ldquo;MITSUWARI&rdquo; diagonal bracing.

    Flatwize bending tests were conducted after a measurement of the visual grading factors and dynamic modulus of elasticity for a full scale rectangular-cut lumber sawed from Sugi (Cryptomeria japonica D.Don) mediumsize logs grown in Wakayama Prefecture. The purpose is to verify the applicability of machine stress grading of JAS (Japanese Agricultural Standards) and to examine utilization of the materials as structural lumber under flatwize bending. Main results are as follows. 1) As visual features rectangular-cut lumber whose ratio of knot size to face depth exceeded more than 60%, and which had dead knot showed brittle fracture. 2) Although visual stress grading and machine stress grading were both effective as stress grading system, the machine stress grading was more effective than the other. 3) Very strong linear relationships are observed between bending modulus of elasticity and dynamic modulus of elasticity. From these results in the above, the strong standard characteristic values of lumber by the machine stress grading using bending modulus of elasticity of the standard size of 45mm, were calculated. Therefore, the rectangular-cut lumber, of which quality is controlled by the present method, is available as structural lumber, since stiffness, strength, and ductility are guaranteed.

    This paper is concerned with the elastic buckling behavior of double-layer lattice structures. The lattice patterns treated as "square-on-diagonal" and "diagonal-on square". The teams refer to member layout in the top and bottom layer respectively. On designing this lattice structures, the relation between the member layout and the edge of plan must be decided. Then, in this paper the effect of member layout on the buckling behavior and stress states are investigated for double layer lattice grids and cylinders. The other numerical parameter is the support conditions.

    This paper is intended as an investigation of the effects of mesh patterns, arrangements of member cross sections and boundary conditions on the static buckling behavior of double-layer latticed domes and an estimation of ultimate loads by elasto-plastic static buckling analyses. The treated mesh patterns for each layer are a square pattern and a diagonal pattern. The boundary conditions for the structural design and the loading are pin support and pin-roller support. The loading types are a distributed loading in proportion to the distribution of dead load. Based on the numerical results, the effects of mesh pattern and boundary condition on the elastic stiffness, the sequences of occurrences of member yield, the initial and ultimate loads and so on were made clear. The ultimate loads were estimated in safe side by using Modified Dunkerley Formulation with the knock-down factor γ=1.0.

    This paper is intended as an investigation of the static buckling behavior of double-layer latticed domes with various mesh patterns and loading types. The treated mesh patterns are a square pattern (S-pattern) and a diagonal pattern (D-pattern). The combining mesh patterns for the domes as "mesh pattern for upper layer + mesh pattern for lower layer" are "S-pattern + S-pattern", "S-pattern + D-pattern" and "D-pattern + S-pattern". The loading types are an uniformly distributed loading and an asymmetrically distributed loading. The method of numerical analysis is an elasto-plastic buckling analysis taking into account the geometrical nonlinearity. Based on the results, first, the effects of the mesh pattern and the loading type on the static buckling behavior are made clear. Finally the initial yield load and the ultimate load are estimated by using Modified Dunkerley Formulation as a function of generalized slenderness ratio Λ with knock-down factor γ.

    This paper is intended as an investigation of the static and dynamic buckling behavior of double-layer latticed domes with various mesh patterns. The combining mesh patterns for the domes as "mesh pattern for upper layer+mesh pattern for lower layer" are "S-pattern+S-pattern", "S-pattern+D-pattern" and "D-pattern+S-pattern". The static or dynamic loads are applied to the nodes in proportion to the distribution of dead load. The methods of numerical analyses are an elastoplastic buckling analysis (static analysis) and a time history response analysis (dynamic analysis) taking into account the geometrical and material nonlinearities. In the dynamic analysis, the input waveform is a vertical step wave. Based on the results, first, the effects of the mesh pattern and the half subtended angle of dome on the static and dynamic buckling behavior are made clear. Then, the static ultimate loads and the dynamic buckling loads are estimated by using Modified Dunkerley Formulation as a function of generalized slenderness ratio A with knock-down factor γ. Finally the strain and input energy obtained by the static and dynamic analyses are compared and discussed.

    This paper is intended as an investigation of the effects of mesh patterns, arrangements of member cross sections and boundary conditions on the static buckling behavior of double-layer latticed domes and an estimation of ultimate loads by elasto-plastic static buckling analyses. The treated mesh patterns for each layer are a square pattern and a diagonal pattern. The boundary conditions for the structural design and the loading are pin support and pin-roller support. The loading types are a distributed loading in proportion to the distribution of dead load. Based on the numerical results, the effects of mesh pattern and boundary condition on the elastic stiffness, the sequences of occurrences of member yield, the initial and ultimate loads and so on were made clear. The ultimate loads were estimated in safe side by using Modified Dunkerley Formulation with the knock-down factor γ=1.0.

    This paper is intended as an investigation of the static buckling behavior of double-layer latticed domes with various mesh patterns and loading types. The treated mesh patterns are a square pattern (S-pattern) and a diagonal pattern (D-pattern). The combining mesh patterns for the domes as "mesh pattern for upper layer + mesh pattern for lower layer" are "S-pattern + S-pattern", "S-pattern + D-pattern" and "D-pattern + S-pattern". The loading types are an uniformly distributed loading and an asymmetrically distributed loading. The method of numerical analysis is an elasto-plastic buckling analysis taking into account the geometrical nonlinearity. Based on the results, first, the effects of the mesh pattern and the loading type on the static buckling behavior are made clear. Finally the initial yield load and the ultimate load are estimated by using Modified Dunkerley Formulation as a function of generalized slenderness ratio Λ with knock-down factor γ.

    This paper is intended as an investigation of the static and dynamic buckling behavior of double-layer latticed domes with various mesh patterns. The treated mesh patterns are a square pattern (S-pattern) and a diagonal pattern (D-pattern). The combining mesh patterns for the domes as "mesh pattern for upper layer+mesh pattern for lower layer" are "S-pattern+S-pattern", "S-pattern+D-pattern" and "D-pattern+S-pattern". The static or dynamic loads are applied to the nodes in proportion to the distribution of dead load. The methods of numerical analyses are an elastoplastic buckling analysis (static analysis) and a time history response analysis (dynamic analysis) taking into account the geometrical and material nonlinearities. In the dynamic analysis, the input waveform is a vertical step wave. Based on the results, first, the effects of the mesh pattern and the half subtended angle of dome on the static and dynamic buckling behavior are made clear. Then, the static ultimate loads and the dynamic buckling loads are estimated by using Modified Dunkerley Formulation as a function of generalized slenderness ratio A with knock-down factor γ. Finally the strain and input energy obtained by the static and dynamic analyses are compared and discussed.
