    Abstract

    Two types of dendrimers with a bipyridine unit in the center of their rigid backbones were prepared. One dendrimer has two azide groups and the other has one ethynyl terminal. These dendrimers were coupled by the copper‐mediated Hüisgen 1,3‐dipolar cycloadditions of the ethynyl and azide terminals to afford a trimer with three bipyridine cores. The addition of Fe(II) to a solution of the trimer resulted in an absorption change characteristic of the formation of tris(bipyridine)Fe(II) complexes. The structural properties of the tris(bipyridine)Fe(II) core are likely reflected in the conformation of the timer because the bipyridine units are attached to the rigid backbones.

    A platinum octaethylporphyrin (PtOEP)-diphenylanthracene (DPA) dyad with an ethynylene linker was synthesized. PtOEP and DPA were used as a triplet sensitizer/energy donor and energy acceptor, respectively. UV–vis spectra suggested significant electronic coupling between PtOEP and the ethynylene linker in the ground state. Compared with the non-substituted PtOEP, emission from PtOEP in the dyad was almost completely quenched probably due to triplet excitation energy transfer from PtOEP to DPA.

    A small fused polycyclic molecule containing a phenothiazine and diazapyrene skeleton as the donor and acceptor, respectively, has a redox potential similar to those of the corresponding donor and acceptor molecules, indicating that the inherent electronic properties of the donor and acceptor were retained due to weak orbital interactions.

  • Mechanistic Study for the Reaction of B-12 Complexes with m-Chloroperbenzoic Acid in Catalytic Alkane Oxidations Reviewed

    The oxidation of alkanes with m-chloroperbenzoic acid (mCPBA) catalyzed by the B12 derivative, heptamethyl cobyrinate, was investigated under several conditions. During the oxidation of cyclohexane, heptamethyl cobyrinate works as a catalyst to form cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone at a 0.67 alcohol to ketone ratio under aerobic conditions in 1 h. The reaction rate shows a firstorder dependence on the [catalyst] and [mCPBA] while being independent of [cyclohexane]; Vobs = k2[catalyst][mCPBA]. The kinetic deuterium isotope effect was determined to be 1.86, suggesting that substrate hydrogen atom abstraction is not dominantly involved in the rate-determining step. By the reaction of mCPBA and heptamethyl cobyrinate at low temperature, the corresponding cobalt(III)acylperoxido complex was formed which was identified by UV-vis, IR, ESR, and ESI-MS studies. A theoretical study suggested the homolysis of the O-O bond in the acylperoxido complex to form Co(III)-oxyl (Co-O center dot) and the m-chlorobenzoyloxyl radical. Radical trapping experiments using Ntert-butyl-alpha-phenylnitrone and CCl3Br, product analysis of various alkane oxidations, and computer analysis of the free energy for radical abstraction from cyclohexane by Co(III)-oxyl suggested that both Co(III)-oxyl and the m-chlorobenzoyloxyl radical could act as hydrogen-atom transfer reactants for the cyclohexane oxidation.

    &lt;p&gt; ヘロナピロールA–C (1–3) は2010年にCaponらによってオーストラリアのヘロン島沖の海浜砂で採取された海洋由来放線菌Streptomycessp. (CMB-M0423) から単離された2次代謝産物である(Figure 1)&lt;sup&gt;1&lt;/sup&gt;。ヘロナピロールA–Cはグラム陽性菌Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 9144 (IC&lt;sub&gt;50&lt;/sub&gt; 0.6–1.1 mM) and Bacillus subtilisATCC 6633 (IC&lt;sub&gt;50&lt;/sub&gt; 1.1–6.5 mM) に対して抗菌活性を示すことが報告されているが、グラム陰性菌に対しては活性を示さず、また哺乳類の細胞腫に対しても細胞毒性を示さないことがわかっている。その構造は2D NMRを中心に解析され、ピロール環の4位がファルネシル化され2位がニトロ化された構造が提出された。&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; このような構造は天然物としては極めて珍しく、他にはニトロピロリンA–E (4–8) が知られているのみである(Figure 2)&lt;sup&gt;2&lt;/sup&gt;。ニトロピロリンA–Eは同じく2010年にFenicalらによってカリフォルニアのLa Jolla海岸で採取された海洋放線菌種CNQ-509から単離された化合物で、ヒト結腸

    The structure and O<SUB>2</SUB>-reactivity of the copper(I) complexes supported by bis[(6-phenyl-2-pyridyl)methyl]amine tridentate ligands (L5<SUP>R</SUP>) and bis(2-quinolylmethyl)amine tridentate ligands (L6<SUP>R</SUP>) have been investigated in detail in order to get insights into the steric effects of the tridentate ligands on copper(I)/O<SUB>2</SUB> chemistry. In the cases of benzyl amine and phenethyl amine derivatives [R = –CH<SUB>2</SUB>Ph (Bz) and –CH<SUB>2</SUB>CH<SUB>2</SUB>Ph (Phe)], the reaction between the ligands and [Cu<SUP>I</SUP>(CH<SUB>3</SUB>CN)<SUB>4</SUB>]<SUP>+</SUP> gave the corresponding copper(I)–acetonitrile complexes having a distorted tetrahedral geometry. On the other hand, the 2,2-diphenylethyl amine derivative L6<SUP>R</SUP> [R = –CH<SUB>2</SUB>CHPh<SUB>2</SUB> (PhePh)] afforded a copper(I) complex without an ancillary ligand (CH<SUB>3</SUB>CN) and having intramolecular d–π interaction between the copper(I) ion and the phenyl group of the alkyl substituent PhePh. The acetonitrile complexes were then converted to the corresponding CO-complexes by reacting with CO gas. The X-ray structures of all CO-complexes have been determined, and the complexes have a similar distorted tetrahedral geometry. In addition, the 6-phenyl group of L5<SUP>R</SUP> imparts a large steric effect on the metal-binding. The CO-complexes were converted to the copper(I) complexes without having any ancillary ligands in order to examine their O<SUB>2</SUB>-reactivity. Significantly large differences in O<SUB>2</SUB>-reactivity were found among the copper(I) complexes. On the basis of O<SUB>2</SUB>-reactivity together with the X-ray structures and the oxidation potentials of the copper(I) complexes, the steric effects of the hetero-aromatic donor groups (6-substituted pyridine and quinoline) as well as the alkyl substituents (R) are discussed in detail.
