<p>The authors have been conducting research on the application of "verbal maps" that replace visual information with auditory information. In recent years, we have been trying to create a " Sightseeing Verbal Maps " for visually impaired people to enjoy walking to improve their quality of life (QOL). This time, we chose Itami Sky Park and the approach to Kiyomizu Temple Road as the target areas, and we created a map of sightseeing spots by incorporating guideposts, environmental sounds, and sound effects that are closer to reality and motivate people to go out. In addition, due to the influence of the Corona disaster, virtual walking experiments and interviews for the visually impaired, which had been conducted in the laboratory, were conducted online using the teleconference tool Zoom. Through the interviews, we were able to improve the word map, clarify useful environmental sounds and sound effects, and examine the feasibility of the online environment.</p>

In recent years the development of the urban river has been focusing on efforts for the environment and the water amenity besides the flood control and the water utilization, in some cases however, the residents along the river have failed to value and then water amenity has made little progress.<br>This paper takes a case of the waterfront development of the small size river in an emerging built-up area. Going through several years after the project implementation, we take hold of the actual condition and the attitudes of residents by means of hearing survey to the inhabitants. This study performs analyses on the results of actual condition survey towards the smooth implementation of the enterprise and the consensus formation and in urban riverside development considering development methods in order to promote the utilization with high evaluations from the inhabitants as concrete strategies.

Unlike sighted people, visually-impaired people cannot use a high performance pedestrian navigation system. Therefore, they must ask sighted people to take them to a place to which they have never walked before. And, they cannot know peripheral facility and scene in a place walking in everyday life. In this way, a digital divide occurs between visually-impaired people and sighted people.<br>The purpose of this study is to revise verbal map guidelines that show rules for describing features in a town to enhance everyday mobility. Therefore, this study figures out feature information visually-impaired people use in everyday life.<br>This study presents a review of earlier studies and related studies, and make a speech augmented reality (AR) application. Because a speech AR application can get information only for hearing, it is available to visually-impaired people like sighted people using a AR application. Then, two kinds of field experiments are conducted. The first experiment is a monitor experiment and has visually-impaired people use a smartphone which implemented a speech AR application in everyday life. The second experiment is a site experiment and has them use a pedestrian navigation system and walk in a course we set according to it. Finally, from the hearing result of those experiments, verbal map guidelines are revised.<br>This study shows a pedestrian navigation system necessary for visually-impaired people considering daily mobility needs. This system will lead to the early practical use and expansion possibility of a pedestrian navigation system for visually-impaired people.

Bicycle lanes with legal control have been introduced on carriageway as a governmental pilot project since 2008 in Japan. However the facility design standard for cyclists on roadways is not determined yet while many standards remain the same as for cars/drivers. There are few researches on cyclists' specific eye movement and behavior with road conditions. The amount of information on road should be minimized to avoid confusion, but required to be an informative road space for bicyclists even without driving license. Therefore, some empirical experiments have been conducted to understand differences of cyclist's eye movement and behavior on various types of facilities.

Recently, several researches showed that riding bicycle has some health benefits in many countries. Riding bicycle in Japan also attracts people who have concerns about their health and environment while bicycle trip statistics showed that the average trip distance was much shorter than other countries. Under these condition, some bicycle transport planners focuses on the engineering property of bicycle network to realize health benefit effectively, but there is few researches describing the health effects on existent bicycle path conditions.<br>Therefore we conducted the preliminary experiment that 8 students ride on 3 courses representing urban road conditions with approx. 5km length including different types of bicycle path and traffic condition. During the experiment, heart rate was monitored as dependent variable. Before the experiment, expiratory gas analysis was conducted in laboratory which gives an indirect estimation of energy consumption using the relationship between the load strength of physical activity and energy consumption.<br>This study analyses the relationship between energy consumption rate and bicycle path conditions such as degree of gradient, interval of signals, and accumulation of physical tiredness using indirect energy consumption estimation method. It also investigated the effect of psychological pressures on heart rate caused by road or traffic conditions.

As the falling birthrate and the aging population, increasing suburban shopping malls, urban area is on a cavitations phenomenon. In order to solve the problem, a lot of countermeasures like digging up concealed spots by local residents, transmitting information about sightseeing, are worked on positively for local revitalization.<br>In all of the countermeasures, "Pedestrian ITS (Intelligent Transport System)" is in a center of attention to deliver information for sightseeing,<br>Recently, wide variety town navigation systems are adopted in each place. However, most of them aren't done well for themselves because their operations are stopped soon after management is started. External factor bring down the problems and contents doesn't attend to user's needs are causes of that difficulties.<br>In this study, we clear up the causes of that and modeling of sightseeing spot choices required for user recommendation system.

This study proposes "Public Structure Treaceability System" to fill in information gaps between public administration and citizen. And we have worked toward the implementation.<br>In this paper, we analyze present situation about administrative information and clarify the problem. Then an information system demanded by the results and process that we determine the information on the system is showed. And two experiments show citizens' information needs and prove the benefit of the system.

Recently, several researches showed that riding bicycle has some health benefits in many countries. Riding bicycle in Japan also attracts people who have concerns about their health and environment while bicycle trip statistics showed that the average trip distance was much shorter than other countries. Under these condition, some bicycle transport planners focuses on the engineering property of bicycle network to realize health benefit effectively, but there is few researches describing the health effects on existent bicycle path conditions.<br>Therefore we conducted the preliminary experiment that 8 students ride on 3 courses representing urban road conditions with approx. 5km length including different types of bicycle path and traffic condition. During the experiment, heart rate was monitored as dependent variable. Before the experiment, expiratory gas analysis was conducted in laboratory which gives an indirect estimation of energy consumption using the relationship between the load strength of physical activity and energy consumption.<br>This study analyses the relationship between energy consumption rate and bicycle path conditions such as degree of gradient, interval of signals, and accumulation of physical tiredness using indirect energy consumption estimation method. It also investigated the effect of psychological pressures on heart rate caused by road or traffic conditions.

Recently, the activation of the urban area is becoming a serious problem. As an example, open terraces are set up to improve the usage of street spaces. The street spaces are evaluated by the index of flowing quantity of the space density and the pedestrians, today. However, these indexes cannot be applied to the space where multiple ways of flow exists. Therefore, it cannot be clarified whether or not if this is effective. So in order to clarify the effect, it is important to understand the situation of the flow. The study proposes the index quantitatively expresses the flow situation. And the utility was confirmed by the walking experiment that simplified the flow situation. Also in an actual urban area that showed complex flow, it was shown that the index was able to be applied. The influence of the analytical condition and the spatial condition on the index was examined by using the walking experiment data.

The objective of this study is to analyze the relationship between traffic conditions and driver's satisfaction with level of services (LOS) for basic expressway segments.<br> Driver's perception and satisfaction about the traffic conditions has large difference among individuals, however, the aggregate satisfaction tends to constant. Then, by using the covariance structure analysis, causal relationships between drivers' satisfaction and both traffic indices and perceptions of traffic condition. Finally, for each number of lanes, a satisfaction rating model with traffic indices as independent variables is proposed.

There are a lot of measures for the prevention of the traffic accident now. However, whether these measures work effectively from respect of the psychological condition is not considered. Because a method for measuring driver's mental reactions has not been established. Then, the purpose of the study is to propose a method for measuring driver's mental reactions by using Near Infrared Sensor. The sensor gives physiology index that is an oxygen saturation of the hemoglobin. This paper shows the utility of the technique and stability of this method.

Recently, navigation systems for pedestrian are widespread with advancing positional specific technology, e.g. GPS. However, the accuracy of apositional specific technology is after low, and even audio guide is difficult for visually handicapped people.<br> In the study, a navigation system for the visually handicapped was experienced by using the signal of sound and the verbal map in the condition similar to practical use. In this paper, the classification of facilities intended for suburbs, a margin for error of timing, and the priority level of the element of the verbal map are clarified from the experiment and hearing. Then, the proposal of the practical use of the navigation is discussed.

Urban activation demands policies which consider mutual relations among purchase activities and trip-chaining behaviors of individuals. Observation of individual trip-chaining behaviors, which gives basis of the consideration, can be achieved by applying mobile communication technology devices. We focus upon PHS (Personal Handyphone System) as one typical system of short-range radio communication. A methodology of observing individual trip-chaining in a large-scale commercial building is proposed. The method consists of 1) every-minute positioning of individual, and 2) discrimination of moving/stay. The paper describes the method and a result of field test conducted in an underground shopping center.

The authors are attempting to develop the traffic simulation as one of tools for evaluating motorcycle safety measures. In this paper, we deal with a motorcycle behavior overtaking an on-street parking vehicle, which is the most basic behavior in model construction. With the critical point distributions derived from the longitudinal and lateral potential curves and the potential thresholds, a statistical method extracting the passing-start point and the turning-start point is proposed. Analyzing swept path data observed from the actual traffic flow, model parameters concerning the passing-start point which is the most critical point in the trajectory, are estimated and the model identification method is discussed.

It is important to understand the movement of "Person" that is a traffic subject in planning urban traffic, and person trip (hereafter, it is assumed the PT investigation) that understands an individual traffic situation during a day plays an important role. However, the content of an actual activity is not accurately recorded because filling in tothe investigation table is done after all the activities during a day in the conventional PT survey methodology. Then, in this research, we propose a PT investigative tool, named "e-Trip System" that uses the GPS cellular phone and the personal computer to resolve these problems. The process makes the content of the activity recalled by acquiring the movement tracks by using a positionspecifying function of the GPS cellular phone when actually acting, and showing the movement tracks obtained in the sight on the personal computer, and operates by those who answer oneself and completes the trip data. In this research, some dozens of persons used this tool after the prototype is designed, and the perfection of the tool was improved by feeding back the obtained opinion. And, to prevent the lack of record and improve accuracy, we conducted small PT survey experiment by e-Trip System, and the effect was verified by the comparison with a conventional investigation form.

In this paper, the location positioning method was improved the time-dependent the time subdivision reference base-station vector, and presuming a tester's position. We proposed that we compute the time subdivision reference base-station vector, considering temporal variation received signal strength. The field research was CRYSTA of urban underground and the suburban Oizumi Park. Position accuracy was compared in CRYSTA and Oizumi, and we showed the knowledge about the parameter of an element important for position accuracy. The knowledge of this research is described below. 1) When the location positioning method was improved, position accuracy became good in each experiment place. 2) Since the parameter became the almost same value, we found the parameter characteristic by the electric situation.

In Japan, the number of traffic accidents in mixed traffic having the higher rate of motorcycles among the world, is increasing. Evaluation of traffic safety measures taking account of motorcycles is important. In this paper, a potential model which can express motorcycle behavior near a crossing is proposed, which is to be an essential part of the traffic simulation model used for evaluation of moped safety. The authors show concepts of a model concerning traffic situations affecting swept path of motorcycle which proceeds into a crossing, and estimate model parameters about motorcycle behavior evading an on-street parking vehicle.

The traffic condition in a central business/commercial district (CBD) dominates whole-city usage of traffic modes as well as attractiveness of CBD. Thus traffic management in CBD is a critical issue from the viewpoint of the whole-city transportation system as well as of local traffic service. The simulation system being developed in this study aims to evaluate the effects of traffic management policies with several distinctive features, including: (1) reproducing traffic conditions in detail level of block, with flexible and seamless network description by using GIS as the platform, (2) treating "walk" as an important mode, (3) modeling traffic system performance considering interactions between modes and/or links.

This paper presents the basic model that estimates route choice and departure time distributions at the commuter rush hour. The choice of route and departure time is based on the trade-off between travel time and schedule delay. The utility function consists of the estimated travel time, schedule delay, lateness in arrival at work. The estimated travel time includes the safety marginw ith uncertain travel performancef rom day to day. This model applies to the urban road networks with multiple trip origins and distinations by means of the new dynamic traffic assignment. The model is used to perform simulation experimentsa, nd to analyze the impacts of values of the disutility parameters.
