Research subject summary

  • カエル胞胚の中胚葉誘導に関し2つの相反する仮説がある。誘導源とされる植物極側に誘導因子が局在する説と、細胞自律的な決定因子が存在するとの説であり、現在これらの仮説の妥当性を検討した。先験的な因子の局在を仮定しない、空間的な相互作用のみで中胚葉形成を示す数理モデルを構成できる。これは反応拡散モデルに空間依存的な反応生産量を定義することで得られ、この定義は、細胞の密度が植物極側ほど低いことを踏まえたものである。このモデル上で実験形態学的な移植実験を模したところ、植物極側から動物極側への「中胚葉誘導」が観察された。また、予定域を単離することで、中胚葉の「自律的分化」も観察された。これらの解析から現在、中胚葉形成の2つの仮説は矛盾なく両立し、ある単一のメカニズムの一面として理解できる、との可能性を論じている。またこのモデルは、魚類など他の下等脊椎動物胚の理解にも役立つと思われる。
