    Weld residual stresses are affected by phase transformation of low-alloy steels. When phase transformation occurs, transformation plasticity occurs in addition to transformation expansion. Conventional predictions of welding residual stress using the finite element method often consider only transformation expansion, and there are few cases in which transformation plasticity is taken into factor. In this study, welding residual stress analysis that factors in transformation plasticity was performed to verify the effect of transformation plasticity on welding residual stress. The results show that the prediction accuracy of welding residual stress due to transformation expansion of low-alloy steel is improved by factors in transformation plasticity.

    A creep analysis method was developed to evaluate the creep damage of hot reheat pipes in thermal power plants. In this method, a large-scale thermo-elastic-plastic creep analysis was achieved by introducing Norton's law into the Idealized Explicit FEM(IEFEM). In order to achieve an efficiently analysis of a large-scale structure, a multigrid method was also introduced to the IEFEM. The developed method was applied to the prediction of creep strain in a hot reheat pipes of thermal power plant for over a 10 year period. The effect of structural inhomogeneity on creep strain distribution was analyzed. Finally, the computational results of whole model were compared with those of the zooming model. As a result, it was confirmed that the creep strain obtained by the zooming analysis and the whole analysis have a difference in the creep strain up to 15%. This indicated that analysis of the whole piping system may lead to more accurate evaluation on creep strain.

    To investigate the effect of load changing on creep fatigue life of pipe joints, a creep fatigue analysis was conducted by introducing evaluation method of the creep fatigue life developed by Arai et al. to Idealized Explicit FEM which can perform large scale nonlinear structural analysis with realistic computing resources. First, an analysis for simulating experimental phenomena was performed and the predicted creep fatigue life was compared with the measured one to verify the analysis accuracy. As a result, it was confirmed that the predicted creep fatigue life by the constructed method was in good agreement with the actual creep fatigue life. In addition, the predicted fracture locations by the analysis and the actual damage locations agreed each other. To confirm the effects of the bending and torsional moments, 203 different bending torsional conditions were assumed and their analyses were performed. It is found that the creep fatigue life can be shorter with the larger bending moment ratio.

    Trans-Varestraint test is basically used for hot cracking susceptibility of materials. In the Trans-Varestrain test, bending deformation is applied to the specimen during welding to produce cracking. From the shape and size of cracks, the hot cracking susceptibility indices such as Brittle temperature range (BTR) and critical strain are obtained. The nominal strain generated by the bending can be calculated from the specimen thickness and the radius of the bending block. However, it has been reported that in this test, the estimated nominal strain and the actual strain acting on the weld metal differ significantly due to localized heat. In this study, hot cracking analysis using Idealized explicit FEM, which can compute large-scale thermal elastic-plastic analysis with smaller computing time and memory, is applied to the Trans-Varestraint test. The effects of heat input and test conditions on the mechanical behavior of the welded part during the Trans-Varestraint test are investigated. The results indicate that the strain acting on the welded part during the Trans-Varestraint test is larger than the nominal strain. In addition, it is found that the welding speed has a significant effect on the amount of strain acting on the molten part. It is suggested that these were caused by local melting of the specimens, resulting in a decrease in strength. In addition, bending speeds and welding speeds affect the amount of strain produced by bending and the size of the area in which the strain occurs. In other words, they affect the size of the region and the amount of strain generated in the BTR and have a significant effect on the maximum crack length obtained in the Trans-Varestraint test.

    Complex thin-plate structures such as ships and bridges are welded together with numerous thin plates and stiffeners. Thermal elastic-plastic analysis based on the finite element method is a fundamental tool for predicting welding deformations and residual stresses in large steel structures. The shell-solid coupling method can improve the analysis scale and efficiency compared to the solid element method. This study aims to introduce the shell-solid coupling analysis method into welding mechanical analyses to improve the efficiency of computation and modeling. The guideline for the use of the proposed method was also investigated. The proposed shell-solid coupled analysis was constructed based on a multipoint constraint technique which erases the degrees of freedom at the shell-solid interface. It was applied to the analysis of welding mechanics of the fundamental T-joint model to validate the accuracy of the proposed shell-solid coupling analysis. The proposed method was also applied to the welding deformation analysis of a panel structure model for a car-carrier ship. The results revealed that computing time of the proposed method was less than 30 percent of that of the conventional FEM and the proposed method has almost the same analysis accuracy as conventional techniques. The proposed method could achieve a more efficient analysis than the conventional method.

    Thermal elastic plastic (TEP) finite element analysis (FEA) is widely used to analyze welding mechanical phenomena such as welding deformation and residual stress. One of the problems of welding mechanical analysis using finite element method (FEM) is that it requires a lot of time for preprocessing such as modeling and meshing. In this study, the explicit master-slave elimination with multipoint constraints (MPCs) was introduced to the Idealized explicit FEM (IEFEM) for efficient FE modeling and welding mechanical analysis of large-scale complex structures. The proposed method was applied to T-joint welds to verify its accuracy when using the explicit master-slave elimination, and the effects of the ratio of master and slave element sizes on results of the heat conduction (HC) analysis and TEP analysis were investigated. As a result, it was confirmed that the welding mechanical analysis using the proposed method is in good agreement with the analysis results using the ordinary node-shared model. It was also confirmed that the analysis results did not agree when the element size of the slave was large compared to the element size of the master. Finally, the proposed method was also applied to the analysis of a welded structure including multi-layer welds and fillet welds for steel column-beam connections. It was confirmed that the proposed method was useful in performing fast calculations with highly efficient FE modeling for large-scale steel column-beam joint welds.

    <p>In friction stir welding, tool shape can effect the mechanical behavior during joining. In this study, the effect of tool shape on the temperature distribution during joining was investigated using numerical simulation method based on particle method. The influence of joining condition such as rotational speed, traveling speed and tilt angle on cylindrical tool and semi-spherical tool were investigated using the particle method. From these results, it was found that the rotation speed and the traveling speed have larger effect than tilt angle on the temperature distribution. It was also found that the cylindrical tool and semi-spherical tool almost have same tendency corresponding to the parameter change. Stresses in tool were also investigated according to the predicted pressure distribution by the particle method. As a result, it was found that the semi-spherical tool can reduce the stress than the cylindrical tool.</p>

    In order to investigate the effect of gas cutting during removal of restraining jig on deformation after submerged arc welding, the authors have conducted the experiments on a series of processes using a constraint jig plates in a test specimen modeling the deck of a steel bridge. In this paper, an Idealized explicit FEM developed by the authors is applied to investigate in detail the factors that cause springback deformation during the gas cutting of the constraint jig plates.
    A series of welding and cutting processes using a constraint jig plates were modeled, and then a three-dimensional thermo-elastic-plastic analysis was performed using the Idealized explicit FEM. As a result, it is confirmed that the experimental and analytical results were in good agreement, and the validity of the analysis method was demonstrated. In addition, it is found that the inherent deformation during gas cutting had a significant influence on the springback deformation by the numerical analysis. Then, we proposed a simplified mechanical model to estimate the deformation during gas cutting. As a result, it was confirmed that the proposed mechanical model showed quantitatively good agreement with the springback deformation.

    The effect of specimen thickness on the behavior of fatigue crack growth rate (FCGR) requires rigorous investigation because the thickness effect is not independent and could be a function of the specimen geometry, material properties, loading conditions, and environmental conditions. The purpose of this study is to numerically investigate the effect of specimen thickness and stress level on the behavior of FCGR at the specimen-free surface and mid-thickness in notched mild steel specimens. Elastic-plastic numerical calculations were performed based on FEM using the domain integral method to calculate the cyclic J-integral parameter, ΔJ, which was used for calculating FCGR. Different specimen thicknesses and various constant amplitude stress levels were used in the numerical calculations. Crack growth calculations were carried out using the node release technique in which the history of the former crack was considered. The calculated fatigue lives were firstly verified against the experiments taken from the literature. The results of numerical calculations showed that no significant thickness effect was noticed at the mid-thickness for calculations carried out below general yield while when the stress level is close to general yield the thinner specimens showed faster crack growth rates. Further, thickness has a remarkable effect on the crack growth rate at the free surface when the applied stress level is below and close to general yield where the thinner specimens gave faster crack growth rates. The crack-tip driving force ΔJ and the local strains and stresses induced ahead of the crack front could explain the mechanics and behavior of FCGR for the applied thicknesses and stress levels. The distributions of the local strains and stresses could also reveal the effect of the local material ahead of the crack front on the behavior of crack growth.

    Since welding hot cracking is one of the most harmful defects which may largely reduce the strength of welded joints and structures, it is very important to study the prediction and prevention of its generation. Hot cracking is caused by both mechanical and metallurgical factors.
    In this research, authors proposed a new computational method for evaluating the occurrence of hot cracking through considering both mechanical and metallurgical behavior. As the metallurgical behavior, strain due to solidification shrinkage and mechanical resistance of molten metal were modelled using the solidification ratio as a parameter. The mechanical behavior, an index for generation of hot cracking using the increment of plastic strain is proposed. In addition, authors proposed a simplified prediction method using the temperature gradient for the direction of columnar crystal growth, which affects the location of hot cracking, and is used to evaluate the associate angle of the columnar crystals.
    The developed method was applied to butt welding. As a result, it was found that the predicted direction of columnar crystal growth by the proposed method is in good agreement with the experimental results. In addition, the generation of hot cracking in the same butt welding was predicted using the proposed method and the obtained cracking positions agreed well with those observed by experiment. The Influence of the strain of solidification shrinkage on hot cracking was investigated in relation to the surrounding constraints, the temperature gradient and solidification mode, which are presumed to be highly related to the occurrence of hot cracking.
    From the above results, it can be concluded that the proposed method can analyze the effects of mechanical and metallurgical factors on hot
    cracking.

    In the present study, the authors proposed a numerical analysis procedure to evaluate both material flow and tool strength due to friction stir welding <tt>(</tt>FSW<tt>) </tt>using particle method and finite element method <tt>(</tt>FEM<tt>)</tt>.In the proposed evaluation method, material flow during FSW is simulated by the particle method. And then, the calculated pressure distribution on the tool surface is interpolated in the FEM analysis for the evaluation of tool strength. The proposed method was applied to the investigation of the influence of the traveling and rotation speed on the maximum temperature in the welded material. Stresses on the tool surface was also investigated using the proposed method. The result indicated that the traveling speed has large effect on surface stress while the effect of rotation speed on surface stress is small.

    In the construction of thin plate steel structures, including ships, welding is widely used to join parts. Welding inevitably causes deformation in thin plate structures, which may cause various problems. In the present study, an analysis method is developed to realize the prediction of deformation during the construction of large-scale structures based on the thermal elastic plastic analysis method. The developed method uses the idealized explicit finite element method (IEFEM), which is a high-speed thermal elastic plastic analysis method, and an algebraic multigrid method (AMG) is also introduced to the IEFEM in order to realize an efficient analysis of large-scale thin plate structures. In order to investigate the analysis accuracy and the performance of the developed method, the developed method is applied to the analysis of deformation on the welding of a simple stiffened structure. The developed method is then applied to the prediction of welding deformation in the construction of a ship block. The obtained results indicate that the developed method has approximately the same analysis accuracy as the conventional method, and the computational speed of the developed method is dramatically faster than that of the conventional method. The developed method can analyze the welding deformation in the construction of the ship block structure which consists of more than 10 million degrees-of-freedom and is difficult to solve by the conventional method.

    In the fabrication of steel structures, welding is widely utilized to join the materials. Due to the welding, distortions are inevitably generated, and these distortions may cause problems in accuracy or labor costs. In this research, to establish an analysis method which can predict the welding distortions in complex large-scale structures, we proposed a new analysis method based on the Idealized Explicit FEM. In the proposed method, an algebraic multigrid method was introduced to the Idealized Explicit FEM to achieve an efficient analysis in realistic structures. The proposed method was applied to the prediction of the welding distortion in the base structures of the construction machine. The number of welding passes was 28. The predicted and measured distortions were compared. As a result, it was demonstrated that the proposed method has a high analysis accuracy. The analysis finished within the realistic time within 35 hours. The influence of welding sequence on the deformation was also investigated by changing welding sequence. The result indicated that the welding sequence may have considerable effect on the welding distortion and is necessary to be investigated in advance of the production.

    <p>In this research, the contour method was applied to measure the residual stress distribution of a bead-on-plate specimen. The measured residual stress distribution was compared with those measured by neutron diffraction method and calculated by thermal elastic plastic finite element analysis. As a result, it was found that the residual stress distribution obtained by these three methods are in good agreement. In addition, the equilibrium of reaction force on cut plane was considered in the contour method to measure residual stresses in asymmetric cutting which is assumed in the measurement of real structures. The proposed method was applied to the measurement of the residual stress in the multi-pass welded joint. The measured results indicated that the proposed method can measure the residual stress distribution in multi-pass welded joint in asymmetric test specimen.</p>

     溶接割れ発生の有無および進展長さを事前に予測するためのツールとして、「温度依存型界面要素を用いた溶接割れ解析法」を開発し、高温割れ問題や再熱割れ問題への適用を試みた。 今後は、高温割れモデルに凝固モデルを導入することにより、より実現象を忠実に再現できる解析法の開発を進める他、水素脆化割れ問題や応力腐食割れ問題等への展開を視野に入れ、溶接割れを統一的に解析する手法の開発を試みる。

    溶接施工現場で問題となっている、各種溶接接合時に発生する溶接変形および残留応力の推定を行う。  これまでの実績としては、多層溶接の他、狭開先溶接、レーザー溶接、FCB溶接時の変形、残留応力の解析を実施している。

  • 画像処理による非接触変形・応力測定法に関する研究

     More details

     近年におけるデジタルカメラの高性能化に伴い、構造物の変形・応力計測に画像相関法等の画像処理技術を応用する研究が盛んに行われている.これらの方法は,簡便で且つ画像の持つ情報量の多さゆえ有望視されている.そこで本研究では,残差力による修正変位法を新たに提案し、それにより高精度化した画像処理による非接触変形・応力計測法の開発を行う。
