    This study describes a method for constructing a causality model from text data, such as review data. Topic modeling is useful to find these evaluation factors from text data. The method based on hierarchical latent Dirichlet allocation is useful because it automatically constructs relationships among topics. However, the depth of each topic in a hierarchical structure is the same even if the contents differ for each topic. Accordingly, the method can generate less important topics that are not worth analyzing. To solve this problem, we construct a hierarchical topic structure with different depths and more important topics by using Bayesian rose trees. In the experiment, the values of the hyperparameters for constructing a hierarchical topic structure are estimated by using evaluation indexes for causal analysis. In addition, the experiment compares the proposed method with related approaches to demonstrate the usefulness of this model.

    Recommender system is an information-filtering tool used in solving the problem that the user's preference in information overload. In recent years, with the development of deep learning, more and more research has begun to try the combination of deep learning and recommender system, and achieved good results. In this paper, we propose a novel probabilistic model. This model integrates a deep neural network model for extracting image shape features into the apparel goods recommender system to achieve good performance.

    This paper describes a novel approach of edge bundling that employs a genetic algorithm (GA) to optimise the placement of control points. Edge bundling is a useful technique to reduce visual clutter and a number of model-based edge bundling approaches have been introduced in the literature. However, these do not attempt to optimise aesthetic rules directly. Differently from them, our approach assumes that edge bundling is regarded as an optimisation problem for aesthetic rules. To solve this problem, we present an GA-based algorithm where gene representation defines control points of edges in order to allow flexibility and the fitness function is defined based on quantitative criteria for edge bundling. Experimental results using a visualisation of a Japanese airline map demonstrates the feasibility of our proposed method and its usability.

    Recommender system is an information-filtering tool used in solving the problem that the user's preference in information overload. In recent years, some algorithms have been combined with some side information (i.e., item description documents, user reviews, and social networks), and rating prediction accuracy has been significantly improved. However, for fashionable goods, such as apparel and shoes that are important for designing, the contextual information of items is insufficient, and their image shape feature should be considered. Currently, no such recommender system is available to use this feature of image shape. This study proposes a novel probabilistic model using the image shape feature that integrates a convolutional neural network into the probabilistic matrix factorization. The experiment conducted on two real-world datasets corroborates that our model outperforms the other recommendation models.

    In recent years, large amounts of information have been transmitted through SNSs. Mainstream SNSs focus mainly on images. Given that many individuals use SNSs to express their sentiments, understanding the individual feelings of such users can be useful for helping identify potential demand in the society. Sentiment analysis of images in SNSs has thus attracted research attention. However, many existing studies have utilized a supervised learning approach with a high cost for labeling. By contrast, Wang et al., who used unsupervised learning, have acquired the sentiment of images through matrix decomposition from text information and visual information. However, text and visual information are not sufficient to acquire the desired result. In addition, sentiment polarity of the image is greatly influenced by text information. Therefore, this work will conduct a sentiment analysis of images by using tensor decomposition with an unsupervised learning approach. By considering the sentiment polarity of both text and visual features, this work aims to avoid being influenced only by text information.

    Ocean research requires regular collection of ocean data, wherein an autonomous robotic ship is usually used. However, in contrast to collecting land-based data, collecting sea level data face the following problems. First, robot ships are affected by sea surface winds, waves, and tides, with constantly changing strength and direction. Second, hull collisions must be prevented when multiple ships are working simultaneously. Third, given the limitation of the electric power of the autonomous sailing ship, the electric power consumption of the robot ship must be considered when collecting over a wide sea. Fourth, fixed obstacles, such as an island on the sea surface, must be avoided. Given such issues, no effective navigation route search system is currently available. In this work, a navigation route system for complex situations on the sea surface was designed on the basis of the actual situation. Clustering method was used to classify collection points according to distance based on the number of robot ships, and a multi-objective genetic algorithm was used to determine the optimal path for each classification.
