<p>In Japan, the Road Law was revised in 2020 to establish the "improving pedestrian convenience road system" (Hokomichi). This study clarified the current status of Hokomichi's nationwide designation and operation through a questionnaire survey for road administrators. Through the questionnaire, the circumstances around the route, the background to the designation of Hokomichi, the status of road occupancy using Hokomichi, and the relationship with urban policies were clarified. Next, we categorized the Hokomichi according to their urban characteristics and identified the attributes of Hokomichi designation and operation according to their urban characteristics. As a result, we presented the possibility of Hokomichi initiatives that contribute to urban revitalization under the leadership of local governments and in cooperation with local organizations in large cities-urban centers.</p>

<p>Landscape based on various topography is one of Regional Resources. This study aims to clarify the characteristic of landscape in Muro village, Uda City, Nara prefecture, through quantitative analysis of viewshed and angle of elevation and depression, and consideration of visual objects seen from various viewpoint in the village. As a result, topographic condition around viewpoints makes the tendencies of visual openness and enclosure, visual image of religious objects. This study demonstrates the potential of landscape from viewpoints on slope area with the view of religious objects outstanding not only main sightseeing spots that are particularly enclosed in Muro village. We argue the necessity of grasping the characteristic of the landscape focusing on the balance of visual openness and enclosure at each viewpoint.</p>

In recent years, people-centered public spaces have been expanding in many areas. Midosuji Avenue in Osaka is being redeveloped as a space where traffic and people can coexist. In this study, we examined the changes in traffic behavior before and after the installation of the staying spots on a social experiment “Midosuji Challenge 2022”. The results showed that the installation of the staying spots was effective in encouraging both pedestrians and bicyclists to use the correct traffic zones. In particular, it became clear that the effect was strong at the edge of the street. On the other hand, it was also found that the spots became an obstacle to traffic when the traffic volume was high, suggesting the need for installation based on the actual conditions of traffic.

In recent years, the introduction of Park-PFI has spread rapidly in the facility and maintenance management of urban parks.This study is a nationwide survey on the actual status of screening criteria for Park-PFI project selection.
The study covered 102 cases of urban park development projects utilizing Park-PFI.Park characteristics such as park type and size, and business characteristics such as types of revenue-generating facilities were identified through a literature review.Examination guidelines were available for 71 cases.Items in the examination guidelines were categorized and analyzed, and the relationship between the examination guidelines and park and business characteristics were discussed. As a result, liveliness and attracting more visitors were sometimes emphasized, depending on the size of the park and the urban area in which it is located.Trends in examination guidelines were identified.It also revealed a situation in which the items in the examination guidelines have become more diverse in recent years.

In this study, we examined the image of Hokusetsu region from school songs. We collected school songs (282 schools) from elementary and junior high schools in Hokusetsu, and extracted words that symbolize the Hokusetsu region. Next, we analyzed their expressive characteristics and distribution in each school. As a result, in addition to the mountains of Hokusetsu, other mountains such as Mt. Rokko and Mt. Ikoma outside of Hokusetsu were extracted from the lyrics. Furthermore, some of the lyrics also mentioned the image of Osaka, suggesting that residents may have a sense of being local to a wider area than Hokusetsu. In the recognition type, wind tended to be found in schools located relatively close to the summit of the mountain.

In this study, two cities, Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, and Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture, were selected to investigate the characteristics and issues of the institutional development process with a focus on roads for enhanced pedestrian convenience. In each city, we clarified the actual situation through interview surveys on the purpose of institutional development, route selection process, future vision, as well as the process and content of platform and design of convenience increase facilities. As for the issue of institutional development, some routes in Fukuyama City, including those that were intended for off-street business under these coronavirus conditions, were no longer occupied after the transition, while others, such as the stalls using denim fabric in Fushimi-cho, were confirmed to be actively operating on their own initiative. On the other hand, in Matsumoto City, it is difficult for restaurants to serve outside of their stores, and it is expected that they will be able to generate revenue only inside of their stores after coronavirus.

<p>In area management, securing human and financial resources is often a constant issue. This is especially true in regional cities. In this study, we examined the development of area management activities in the case of Sakurai City, Nara Pref. We then analyzed the actual situation of securing human resources and financial resources. Specifically, we clarified the impetus for each person’s participation in area management, the roles of each person, and the status of financial resources and income/expenditure in the activities.</p>

<p>Abeno Nanasaka are Aishin sloping street, Aioi sloping street, Sakura sloping street, Yashiro sloping street, Midori sloping street, Minami sloping street, and Miya sloping street, all located on the Uemachi Plateau in Aben-Ku. This study surveys and analyzes the landscape of the Abeno Nanasaka from visual, historical, and social aspects. In the historical survey, the historical value of the slope was evaluated using the historic landscape characterization. As a result of the survey, it was found that each of the Abeno Nanasaka have a unique topography and road alignment, and that they are all historic slopes. Many of the slopes have powerful elevated landscapes with slopes looming over them. In addition, some slopes have a sense of expectation due to their bends. This area was once described as an ideal residential area with excellent views, and it was found that a slope with a view exists on Abeno Nanasaka. Furthermore, this area is designated as a Scenic District. In the Scenic District, the significance of newly created urban landscapes is emphasized. In Abeno Nanasaka, examples of newly created landscapes were identified.</p>
