Profile
The present research focuses on the synthesis and structural analysis of polymeric nano- and micro-structures, especially in aqueous media, based on supramolecular approaches. The novel materials have been designed and developed specifically for biomedical applications, such as biocompatible nano-carriers for targeted drug delivery system (DDS), advanced nanosystems for nano-pathophysiology, and novel nano-structured microcapsules, among others. Very recently, my group has developed new strategies for protein delivery systems and enzyme-driven nano-reactors for therapeutic applications, as well as a cytosol-mimicking liquid matrix for the full utilization of biomolecules in both industrial and medical contexts.
I have been engaged in the activities of the national academy of Japan (the Science Council of Japan (SCJ); 2016- ) and have contributed to the global scientist community as an alumni member of the Global Young Academy and a member of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC; 2022-). Through the activities, I understood the importance of bridging scientist communities and society, and being sensitive to global issues and international trends in the global community. Recently, I have been concerned about the promotion of science in Japan and have sought to create opportunities for dialogue with the general public and policymakers. To gain more trust from our society, I have been dedicated to advancing “science communication” and “citizen science” in Japan and to improving the relationship between academia and society. To this end, I served as a Senior Science and Technology Policy Fellow at the Cabinet Office of Japan from Apr. 2025 to Mar. 2026.
